A Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) in Australia, created by a GP, allows eligible individuals with diagnosed mental health conditions to access subsidised therapy under Medicare. Initially, patients can receive up to six sessions with approved professionals, with a review required for up to four more sessions each calendar year. Reviews assess treatment progress and update goals. Services must be delivered by Medicare-approved providers such as psychologists or mental health social workers under the Better Access initiative.
